About Camilla Goddard

Camilla Goddard runs Capital Bee which manages apiaries all around London including sites as varied as the Mausoleum in Greenwich, churches in Brockley, a Royal Park and allotment sites. She also provides training for new beekeepers, and is currently working with Sustain to deliver a new scheme in South London to encourage more beekeepers to get started.

She is commited to honey bee conservation and takes where possible a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to her beekeeping methods. She is one of the new generation of beekeepers interested in not just honey production but also promoting beekeeping as environmentally significant. Her new book, published by the Guardian, about innovative new urban beekeepers is coming out this year.

She has installed our 2 Beehives on St Martin's Courtyard rooftop and will be present on our "Bee-Day" to explain all you need to know about beekeeping!

About Sustain

Sustain is one of the UK’s leading charitable networks and has built an alliance for better food and farming advocating food and agricultural policies and practices that enhance the health and welfare of people and animals, improve the working and living environment, enrich society and culture and promote equity.

Last year saw Sustain launch the Capital Growth Campaign which aims to empower Londoners to transform the capital by creating 2012 new growing spaces by the end of next year. Supported by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and the Big Lottery’s Local Food Fund the campaign offers everything from funding to training for those involved in local growing projects. http://www.capitalgrowth.org/

This year the campaign has extended to encourage these communities to engage in beekeeping to support London pollinators. By helping community-run beekeeping projects and helping people make London a ‘bee-friendly’ city Sustain are positively contributing to the eco-system of the city. www.capitalgrowth.org/bees

And this month they have committed to donating a Queen Bee and colony to our St Martin’s Courtyard Beehive Campaign! We currently have 2 Melvita beehives installed on the roof of our Covent Garden store… and we’re raising money for a 3rd hive! The donation of the Queen and Colony by Sustain will help us on our way to increasing the size of our city Apiary.
